In the early spring of 2021, Kareem said he was “in my neighborhood” and asked if I wanted to grab a smoothie. He wasn’t anywhere near my neighborhood — he was home, hoping I’d finally say yes after weeks of him trying and me pretending not to notice, even though I was the one who’d first written to him on Hinge.

That smoothie turned into many more, and three years later, a little person named Sufi joined the story and changed everything.
